Gateway’s next Volunteer Training Class will be held in October of 2010, February of 2011 and again in October of 2011. The class is 26 total hours and is held two times a year in the Denver Tech Center area, and provides a comprehensive overview of battering dynamics and causal factors related to domestic violence. Volunteers are prepared to assist Gateway staff members in such areas as crisis-line management, children's services, legal advocacy, community education and other shelter services.
The October 2010 Volunteer dates will be provided once they are determined.

CRISIS LINE:
Assisting with answering our 24 hour crisis line. This may include phone screenings of callers and routing calls to appropriate persons (staff and residents) as needed. Administrative support (copying, shredding, etc.). Assisting residents with various needs: getting medicine, bus tokens, etc. Hours: 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
RESIDENTIAL SERVICES:
Women: May conduct and/or assist in conducting women's intakes, assisting women in using/locating resources to meet their immediate needs. May also include helping women access donations. Hours: 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
*Children: May conduct and/or assist in conducting children's intakes, assisting children in using/locating resources to meet their immediate needs. May also include helping children access donations. Assisting in facilitating/co-facilitating structured play groups either at or away from shelter while mothers are in counseling. Supervising or co-supervising children on field trips. Hours: 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
NONRESIDENTIAL SERVICES:
Women: May assist women in locating resources to meet their immediate needs. May help women access donations. May assist in preparing materials to give to women, making copies, etc. May help women with supervising children in waiting area while momis in session or group. This is very important in that it assists both the women and children in getting their needs met. It is incredibly difficult for mom to get community support while she has her attention on her children. Hours: Vary, primarily evenings – Monday - Friday.
COURT ADVOCACY PROGRAM:
*Women: Assisting and educating women who are subpoenaed to the Aurora Municipal Court due to domestic violence. This may include: offering and distributing support materials, accompanying women through their court proceedings as they need/request. Brief interview of the victim may be conducted (abuse background). Administrative processing of cases and distributed information. Hours: M - F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
*Children: Accompanying/playing with children in the playroom area while their mother is going through court proceedings. Hours: M - F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
*COMMUNITY EDUCATION:
Attending booths, fairs, and public speaking (Speaker's Bureau) to various community organizations. This may include picking up Gateway information prior to event as well as selling various Gateway items while at the booths and/or distributing information to participants. Answering questions of participants in regards to Gateway's programs, philosophies, mission, etc. Hours: vary, depending on the time of the event and/or requested speak time.
*HOUSE MANAGEMENT:
Pick up and delivery of donated items (need to have own vehicle), moving and organizing donations within the shelter facility, writing notes of acknowledgment to donors, yard work, returning donation calls. Hours: usually M - F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. unless a donation pick up is requested at other times.
*ADMINISTRATION:
Copying, answering phones, shredding sensitive documents, assist with mailings.
Hours: M - F 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
